Sandringham Football Club Coach Aaron Hamill announced the 2019 leadership group yesterday before the boys had their training session at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
"They’re going to lead us as a whole, and we know the job they’re going to do," said Hamill.
The club will be led by 2018 Best and Fairest Winner Brede Seccull who came to the Zebras in 2018 from SANFL club South Adelaide.
"It’s a terrific honour to lead the footy club, to be voted by my peers and get selected," Seccull said. "I’m sure I’ll repay the faith".
Seccull had an impressive season on field, averaging 28 disposals, 13 contested possessions, 7 tackles and 6 clearances.
Experienced campaigner Kade Answerth has been named as the club's Vice Captain in 2019.
The 2017 Best and Fairest winner and former co-captain saying he is "excited to support Brede and the other leaders and everyone (at the club) from support staff to coaches and all the supporters".
Seccull and Answerth are to be joined in the five man leadership group by young defender Jack Noone and former St. Kilda duo Nathan Wright and Sam Gilbert.
Noone was awarded the clubs Most Courageous Player in 2018, while Wright brings a wealth of AFL experience to the team. The 25 year old Wright was drafted with pick 24 in the 2012 draft and played 35 games during his time with the Saints.
Sam Gilbert also joins the leadership group for 2019, having concluded his 208 game AFL career with the Saints. Gilbert has joined the club not only as a player, but as the clubs Senior Assistant Coach, focussing on the backline.
The team will face Williamstown in a practice match this Saturday as they continue their preparations for their round one clash with Footscray on the 5th of April.
