Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Oval Re-development
16/03/2022
The Sandringham Football Club is excited to announce that we are looking to improve our Bayside community by providing new and improved facilities that will benefit the whole community at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Oval.
Our main focus is to build two additional change rooms at our facilities. These change rooms will create a more inclusive environment as they hold a great focus on being female-friendly. In addition to this, there will be female-friendly umpire rooms which will assist in creating a secure environment for our female sporting community.
Sandringham Football Club President, Nick Johnstone, believes that the Bayside community should be very excited about this up and coming project.
"It is long overdue that our facilities have a major upgrade! Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Oval is the showpiece sporting venue in Bayside and our community can expect a wonderful precinct, especially when we have female-friendly change rooms and a place the whole of the Bayside community can feel very proud of”.
Currently our facilities aren't enough to support community needs and club activities, which is something that needs to be addressed. We are working hard, focusing on this inequality by creating a safe place at our football club.
Sandringham Football Club CEO, Marcus Ashcroft, discusses the importance of addressing current challenges faced at our current facilities, stating that it is time to adapt to meet the needs of the rapidly growing female football community.
"Unfortunately, our current facilities are over 50 years old and are not appropriate nor acceptable for all sexes. We are an inclusive football club that aims to cater for everyone. Our VFLW team have really led the way with our female program fast becoming a destination of choice. The requirement for men and women change room facilities is a minimum necessity to ensure our girls can enjoy their sport”.
Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval aims to become the destination of choice for all community-based events, making it a central venue for the whole Sandringham community. With adequate size, the new and improved facilities will be able to cater for multiple teams, providing greater potential for us to host multiple games of football.
Our club is currently in discussion with key stakeholders at different levels of government, the AFL and the local community to provide successful funding outcomes.
Federal Liberal Member for Goldstein, Tim Wilson, Liberal Member for Brighton, James Newsbury, and Liberal Member for Sandringham, Brad Rowswell, are working closely with the Club to ensure these changes can begin to take place.
"Together with Marcus and his team, I’m doing my very best to advocate for the necessary upgrades to change room and club facilities that will benefit this generation of players and the next”, says Rowswell.
