In one of the biggest recruits for the 2018 VFL season, retired Australian cricket superstar Shane Warne has accepted the prestigious honour of number one ticket holder at the Sandringham Football Club.
The announcement was made at the Club’s first Coterie Luncheon for 2018 where Warne was joined by amusing guest speakers Danny Frawley and Aaron Hamill.
In front of a sold out function at Sandy by the Bay, Club Chief Executive Officer David Cannizzo announced the exciting news to the 260 guests.
Club President Nick Johnstone presented Warne with his 2018 Zebra’s membership and jumper which prominently displayed number 23 and ‘Warnie’ on the back.
While proudly accepting the items, Warne spoke with excitement and thanks for the honour of being Zebra’s number one ticket holder.
“When asked if I would accept the offer of being the Zebra’s number one ticket holder, I had no hesitation.
“I grew up in the region, having strong connections with it and the sporting clubs and Sandringham are a wonderful club also aligned to my beloved Saints,” Warne explained.
Club President Nick Johnstone spoke glowingly of the engagement of Warne to the club.
“This is a motivating time for the club with a new President, CEO and Senior Coach and to have Shane Warne as our number one ticket holder, presents a wonderful basis for season 2018,” Johnstone said.
