Vale Alf Beus

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Alf Beus, following his recent passing.
Alf was a past player at the Sandringham Football Club from 1976-1984. He was one of the major factors in the 1976 relegation game against Oakleigh, with his heroics at full back being instrumental in the club avoiding relegation to the second division. An incident took place in the last quarter when play stopped and players watched as part of the fence collapsed under the strain of brawling supporters, spilling onto the ground and resulting in player involvement. Alf was disqualified for two years, but when the honorary commissioners viewed the video supplied by a Zebras supporter he was exonerated.
Alf's influence on the club was so great that "Can Hill" was named "A. Beus Hill" in honour of his service. He was a stalwart of the club and will be sadly missed.
Rest in peace, Alf.
