Two more Saints sign on ahead of round one
23/03/2023
Jemma Webster and Lucy Burke sign with the Southern Saints ahead of round one.
Jemma Webster
Webster joins us from the Western Bulldogs, where she gained some VFLW experience over the past couple of years. A consistent contributor for the Tasmanian Devils in 2021, she is a readymade footballer and can fill a hole anywhere on the field.
βJem will be a great addition to our backline with her attacking style and team first attitude. We're very lucky to have her join us for the 2023 season,β says Head Coach, Michelle 'Alpha' Densley.
Lucy Burke
Burke has been a Sainter for several years and is renowned for her high standards at training. She was recognised for her efforts with a spot in the 2021 VFLW Team of the Year, before being picked up by St Kilda AFLW in 2022 as an injury replacement player, playing six games after making her debut in the season opener against Richmond.
Burke returned to the Southern Saints in the recent AFLW off-season, helping kickstart our progression to the 2022 VFLW Grand Final.
βIt's great for Lucy to come back to us. Although she had a challenging off season, her attitude is second to none," says Alpha.
"The first thing she said was 'Alpha, it's time for me to get to work'. She has goals and I'm excited to help her reach those. Team wise, she provides that big strong body up forward and I'm looking forward to seeing her impact the scoreboard and enjoy her football again.β
