The three ex-AFL players Jake Batchelor would love to see in Zebras colours

In light of former Richmond superstar Alex Rance’s surprise appearance in the VFL for Essendon over the weekend, we thought we’d have some fun with Sandringham Zebras head coach Jake Batchelor to find out the three former AFL players he’d love to get playing at the Zebras.

It’s certainly very unlikely these situations would ever play out, but we dare to dream. Find out our main man’s (slightly left field) three former players he’d like to recruit below, as well as his quick thoughts on the season restarting:
3. Ben McGlynn
AFL club(s): Hawthorn, Sydney
Games played: 171
Batch’s comments:
“He’ll fight, he’ll scrap, and he’s got a really good nous of forward craft. He’s one of the first high half forwards that played the game really well by getting up to the stoppage and working back really hard. He’d certainly be one, and it’d be great to bring an ex-coach back.”
2. Daniel Jackson
AFL club(s): RIchmond
Games played: 156
Batch’s comments:
“An ex-Richmond runner, he’s the best gameday runner I’ve ever seen! Sometimes in small ovals like Trevor Barker you can get stuck in a walking pattern, and Jackson was the best runner I’ve seen live. He’d be really good for us, a ripping bloke and a fellow redhead as well.”
- Alex Rance
AFL club(s): Richmond
Games played: 200
Batch’s comments:
“He’s the best defender the game’s seen, and as we saw he’s still in ripping nick so he’d be a great addition to a young backline. If you’re listening ‘Rancy,’, Sandringham are always open for a discussion.”
Batch also had this to say about coming up against Carlton this Saturday at 12pm at Trevor Barker oval:
“We’re really excited. We don’t know how long the season is going to last, we don’t know if we’ll be playing the week after next, so we’re looking forward to connecting on training on Thursday night and then enjoying the day on Saturday.”
