Six Saints return for 2023
20/03/2023
Madi Capsalis, Sarah Black, Kayla Ripari, Maighan Fogas, Gaby De Angelis and Margaret Kershaw have all re-signed with the Southern Saints ahead of the 2023 season.
Madi Capsalis
After a best on ground performance in the 2022 Grand Final, Capsalis returns to the Saints as one of our leaders.
"We're very excited to see Cap dominate the midfield this year," says Head Coach, Michelle 'Alpha' Densley.
Sarah Black
Black returns in 2023 as our strong ruckman. She has a huge work ethic and a competitive nature and her desire in 2022 to learn and improve her skills and consistently seek extra time with coaches helped her find her role within the team.
"She has stepped up off the field, really taking some younger players under her wing, and on the field we've seen her use her physicality to intimidate the other rucks," explains Alpha.
Kayla Ripari
One of the last remaining inaugural Southern Saints players on our list, Ripari returns for another dominant season. She is a reliable player with an undeniably hard-working attitude and 100% attack on the footy.
"We look forward to her not only being that solid defensive forward, but also impacting on the scoreboard," says Alpha.
Maighan Fogas
Fogas returns to us after a very interrupted 2022 season. Overcoming major injuries, she dabbled in football in the Northern Territory to get some football under her belt in the off season and is ready to hit the 2023 season head on.
She is a fierce competitor with a boot to match and has shown great passion and commitment to her football.
Gaby De Angelis
Live-wire small forward, De Angelis, returns and looks to be just as exciting as she was last year. She finished eighth in the 2022 Southern Saints Best & Fairest and will look to build on this in 2023.
"This preseason we have really seen her confidence grow. That, coupled with her football brain and Eddie Betts style game, will see her be a dominant force up forward this year," says Alpha.
Marg Kershaw
Kershaw was out with a long-term injury in 2022, but she is back better than ever! She is basketballer turned footballer, with the ability to play ruck and run through the backline, a tough match up for an opposition key forward.
Alpha spoke with excitement about Kershaw's return,
"Her ruck skills are great but her skill level in her second and third efforts are unmatched. She's a very clean user of the ball and we're excited to have Marg ready to go this season".
