Sandringham Football Club celebrates Sir Doug Nicholls Round in style for season 2023
Sir Doug Nicholls Round is a highlight of the football calendar and is an opportunity for the AFL/VFL industry to celebrate, acknowledge and thank Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, umpires, fans, volunteers and administrators, both past and present, for their contributions to our game and the football community.
The round continues to be a spectacular occasion that pays tribute to the Traditional Owners of the land on which we play on each week. It’s a true celebration of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and how they have inspired generations of Australians, whilst also amplifying those voices and contributions on a national scale.
The round marks the first time in our football club’s history, that both the VFL and VFLW players will wear a specially designed Sir Doug Nicholls Round jumper to commemorate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The design incorporates Bunjil, the creator, designed by artist, Jade Kennedy.
Sandringham Football Club encourages all of its supporters to attend both the Southern Saints and Sandringham Zebras matches this weekend to be among the illustrious round. Join us on Saturday at RSEA Park as the Southern Saints take on Casey Demons and Sandringham take on Coburg. An acknowledgement of Country and gift exchange will take place prior to both the VFLW and VFL games.
