Indigenous Round in Sandringham
01/06/2018
This week marks the nation-wide Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round. Sandringham will take on North Melbourne at home on Saturday, and there will be a whole range of different activities happening on the day in recognition of this.
Get down to Trevor Barker Beach Oval early to start your day and see the curtain raiser match between VAFA Under 19s sides Old Melburnians and St Bede’s/Mentone Tigers at 11:10am.
The President’s Lunch in celebration of Sandringham’s Past Players and Officials Day will be happening at 12pm, with Andrew Krakouer guest speaking. Guests will be treated to a performance from Indigenous Musician John Hausia, who will also be performing for the crowd at half time.
The centre circle at Trevor Barker Beach Oval has been coloured as an aboriginal flag in celebration of Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round and there will be an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flag painted side by side on the centre wing. Marbee Williams will be performing the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony and also tossing the coin prior to the start of the match.
This round is a terrific opportunity for football clubs around the country to pay tribute to the traditional owners of the land on which they play on each week. Sandringham Football Club encourages all of its fans to get down to their home ground this weekend to support the boys and get amongst the activities.
