SFC 2018 Presentation Review
20/09/2018
Last Friday night, Sandringham Football Club held their Neil Bencraft Best & Fairest night, at the Club’s own function centre, Sandy by the Bay.
The Club recognised a number of exceptional people both on and off the field, and first year Zebra Brede Seccull took out the big one with 109 votes, in front of a room of 130 people.
Best and Fairest winner Brede Seccull cleaned up on the night, also taking home the awards for Best Club Person and Coaches Award. Coach Aaron Hamill cited Seccull’s efforts off the field with the younger, less experienced players and his clear leadership qualities for the accolades.
St Kilda listed mid-forward David Armitage, polled 55 votes in just 5 matches for the Zebras earning himself Runner-Up Best & Fairest, as well as the Jack Barker Award for the St Kilda player with the most votes. He was also presented with the Paul Ladds Memorial Trophy for the Most Liston Trophy Votes.
Hayden McLean was awarded Best First Year Player after being one of the most efficient users of the ball all year across 13 matches for the Zebras. He began the year as their 23 man but quickly made a spot in the side his own.
Last year’s Neil Bencraft Trophy winner and Zebra’s veteran, Kade Answerth was presented with the Team Player award. His commitment to the Club in recent years has been second to none and Sandringham was honoured to recognise his work.
Jonathan Haidon was awarded Most Determined Player having averaged 10 disposals and two marks a game this season. It was his ferocious attack and pressure on the ball that Coach Aaron Hamill cited. He was also the Leading Goal Kicker for the club, in a tie with first year Zebra Tom Lamb.
Jack Noone was named the club’s Most Courageous Player for the year. Having punctured his lung during the season going back with the flight of the ball in a marking contest, his eagerness to get back on the ground was admirable and speaks volumes to his character.
Off the field, the Extra Mile award went to Anthony Vella for his tireless work pre-game and post-game. Bec McHenry was presented with the Gary Gilchrist Award for her Zebra Spirit. Her work at home games off the field was outstanding, organising all of the off-field activities making those games a great, family friendly environment.
All in all, the night was successful and we are already looking forward to a bigger and better 2019 season!
