Sandringham Sign Ross and Coffield for 2021
14/11/2020
Sandringham Football Club is excited to announce the signings of Jackson Ross and Daniel Coffield for the 2021 season. Both players have featured in VFL premiership winning sides in recent years and both will bring invaluable experience and skill to the 2021 Zebras.
Ross is a forward/midfielder who has spent the last three seasons with Hawthorn. At the Hawks he was part of Box Hill’s 2018 premiership winning side and followed it up by leading the side’s goalkicking with 35 goals in the 2019 season.
The 21-year-old is keen to get out on the track with his new club.
“It’s been a bit of a rough 2020, so it’s nice to come over to a good club like Sandringham with a few friends and play some competitive footy again,” he said.
Choosing Sandy as his new home was an “easy decision” in the end for Ross.
“I’ve heard it’s a ripping club and I’ve got a few mates at both St Kilda and Sandy and it’s also pretty close to home for me,” he said.
Coffield, is a back-man who has played 62 games with Richmond’s VFL side since 2016. In 2019 he was part of the Tiger’s VFL premiership winning side and also took out the Guinane Medal as the team’s Best and Fairest.
The intercepting defender is looking forward to a “new challenge” with Sandringham.
“I really loved my time at Richmond but it’s exciting to start something fresh. I really can’t wait,” he said.
Sandringham’s alignment with St Kilda, where his brother Nick plays, as well as the club’s appointment of former Tiger’s teammate Jake Batchelor as Head Coach, were major selling points for Coffield.
“My brother plays for St Kilda so family alignment was really appealing,” he said.
“I knew Batch because we played 30-35 games together at Richmond in the 2’s, which was another reason for me finding Sandringham appealing.
“He’s someone I really look forward to playing for, because of the person he is and his football knowledge."
Coffield will also bring important leadership to Sandy’s side after featuring in the VFL Tigers’ 2019 leadership group.
“Being in the leadership group is really rewarding helping the young guys,” he said.
“I try to help them if there’s stuff I’ve picked up on regarding their games, like some of the guys did to me when I was just starting out.”
Head Coach Batchelor is thrilled to have the signatures of both players.
“Both Daniel and Jackson have showed in the past a high standard of football that will give us a solid foundation to progress our list further,” he said.
“We really like Dan’s ability to win the ball back and then distribute; and Jackson has been a noted goalkicker in the past... they are hard to come by and we look forward to them showing their strengths in the yellow, black and blue.“
Training will resume for the Zebras in early December. Whilst we are still a few weeks away from re-commencement Coffield & Ross haven't wasted any time ramping up their own training over the recent month. We look forward to seeing them train with their new teammates very soon.
