View the team below.
Sandringham captain Brede Seccull will lead the Zebras onto VU Whitten Oval in the 2019 Hard Yakka/Totally Workwear VFL season opener on Friday night at 7pm.
Coach Aaron Hamill has revealed a strong team with plenty of St Kilda Saints AFL-listed players. Of the notable inclusions are Nicholas Coffield (10 AFL games), Logan Austin (20), Billy Longer (65) and David Armitage (167).
Two of our own will be making their Sandringham debuts – former Frankston Dolphin Samuel Fox and Stephen Tahana from the Collingwood Magpies VFL. Sam Gilbert and Nathan Wright will be playing their first games as Sandringham-listed players but have played for the club before in their St Kilda playing days.
Theo Thompson returns to the team after a few injury-ravaged seasons and spoke about his desire to see whether he could get his fitness to a consistent level to feature in the team once again after the club re-signed him in January last year.
The Zebras went 2-3 from pre-season matches, losing to Essendon, Port Melbourne and Footscray, and beating North Melbourne (20 points) and Williamstown (22 points).
St Kilda listed Doulton Langlands will look to continue his impressive run into the season proper, as he nabbed 20 disposals in the final hitout against Essendon last weekend.
Another Saint in Robbie Young too had his skills on show in each of Sandringham’s practice matches, kicking at least one goal in each game, including a tally of seven in the past two.
Before the game tomorrow, feel free to join Sandringham board members, staff and fans from 5pm for a few drinks at The Plough Hotel (333 Barkley St, Footscray) before collectively walking to the game to show our united Zebras pride!
Tickets to the game are $10 for adults, $5 for concession and kids under 15 can attend free! If you’re a Sandringham member, all tickets are $5 and if not, there’s still time to sign up for 2019!
