The Sandringham Football Club is pleased to welcome Sam Latrielle, Tomoya Owens, Mason Hawkins, Cam Dickie and Luca Macnab to the Zebs for the 2023 season.
The Zebs have begun to lock in some new aces to the squad in the lead up to the 2023 VFL season, with all five boys making an impact so far in pre-season.
Sam Latrielle joins us straight out of the Saints NGA program and has showed speed and agility with ball in hand. The youngster will be looking to play VFL footy in 2023 in his first year out of the underage system. Sam will quickly find himself being a great teammate as he loves to chase and pressure as a small forward. "We will continue to get him in the gym but his speed and cleanliness will be a great contribution to our team," says VFL Head Coach, Jake Batchelor.
Tomoya Owens, brother of Michito Owens (Saints AFL), joins us from Beaumaris FC and the Sandringham Sabres (basketball). Tomo has shown plenty of power and athleticism in his early days at the Zebras. He comes from a basketball background, which is already showing through his work ethic and his ability to read the play and make quick decisions in contested situations.
Mason Hawkins comes across to the Zebras from Box Hill FC and has impressed the coaching staff early days. Only 20 years old and standing at 200cm, Mason has plenty of development ahead of him and has already shown a willingness to work and improve. Mason has a great aerobic capacity for a ruck and will fight and scrap all day. "We’ve been really impressed with Mason's work ethic and desire to get better," says Batchelor.
Cam Dickie has been somewhat of a surprise package during the 2023 pre-season. Cam joins us from Dingley FC and the 22 year old has made an impression with his ability to win the contest and give first use to teammates. He is a player who competes well around the ball and makes good decisions when he has it. "Cam was one that we liked from the start and he will be a great culture driver for us," explains Batchelor.
Luca Macnab looks like a very exciting prospect for the Club moving forward. The 19 year old has stood out with the ability to hit targets on his left foot throughout pre-season and has fit right into VFL training early days. He is an elite kick and decision maker. "We are enjoying how Luca is tracking so far and look forward to his application for the rest of the year," says Batchelor.
We can't wait to see all of these guys in action in the yellow, black and blue in 2023!
