New CEO Announced
28/11/2017
The Sandringham Football Club (SFC) is delighted to announce the appointment of David Cannizzo to the role of Chief Executive Officer.
David comes to the SFC from the Southern Football and Netball League, where he is currently Chief Executive Officer, a position he has held since 2012.
David previously served as General Manager with South Metro Junior Football League, and brings with him extensive experience in management, commercial growth, club/team/participant development, marketing, events and stakeholder relations.
He has a Bachelor of Business and is undertaking a Master of Business Administration at La Trobe University.
David will take over from John Mennie, who recently announced his pending retirement. Retiring President Danny Corcoran spoke glowingly of John’s contribution to the club.
“The long-serving John Mennie has made an outstanding contribution over 36 consecutive years and in his time, he managed the club to 8 VFA/ VFL Senior Premierships,” Corcoran said.
“John saw the redevelopment of the Sandy by the Bay Function Centre and the $1.3M ground extension and resurfacing of the Trevor Barker Beach Oval, to make it an AFL standard venue and a ground that is appealing to future aspiring local footballers who want to be drafted to an AFL club.”
“We look forward to John’s ongoing counsel and support as this sort of longevity will never be matched or repeated in the modern era of football.”
Corcoran who is standing down as Club President at this year’s AGM after four years’ of service will remain on the Board and be replaced by prominent local real estate agent Nick Johnstone.
Corcoran added that the appointment was an extremely pleasing one for the Zebras.
“The Sandringham Football Club conducted a thorough recruitment process that focussed on finding an applicant who could hit the ground running so to speak.”
“The quality of applicants was extremely strong and the selection panel were delighted to appoint David given his football administration background having worked in a similar environment and role,” Corcoran explained.
David Cannizzo expressed his eagerness about joining the club.
“The Sandringham Football Club has such a proud and strong history and I cannot wait to be part of the Zebras team. I look forward to working with everyone in the coming months and continuing the work of building the Zebras brand both on and off the field,” Cannizzo said.
David will officially commence in the position with the SFC on January 15, allowing for a smooth transition ahead of John’s retirement date of February 28, 2018.
