The Southern Saints took on the navy Blues at IKON Park on Sunday 16th June in the second last game of the season.
Carlton showed dominance early, having plenty of the ball and kicking six goals to none in the first quarter. In the second we were able to keep them goalless as we ramped up the pressure and shifted our defensive structure, allowing us to take more possession of the ball.
Charlotte Ryan was strong in the midfield with a team-high 24 disposals while Deanna Jolliffe was once again impressive down back with 21 disposals, seven tackles and five intercept marks.
Abbey Tregellis and Jemima Wrigley also finished with seven tackles in what was a solid performance for both girls.
Bella Enno stood up in the moments that mattered, racking up 15 disposals and keeping her opponent to 13 disposals.
Indi Toledo, Kheely Cornwall, Zahlia Clarke, Margot Whitney and Charley Ansell-Jones made their debuts for the Saints on Sunday, with the girls currently playing for the Sandringham Dragons and Dandenong Stingrays in the Coates Talent League. Whitney showed her strength in the ruck with 18 hitouts.
As we looked to attack the footy in the second half, we saw more forward 50 entries and managed to get on the scoreboard with two behinds. We fought until the end and despite our efforts, the Blues were the stronger team and ran away with a 75 point win over the Saints.
Southern Saints 0.0 0.0 0.2 0.2 (2)
Carlton 6.2 6.7 9.10 10.17 (77)
