The Sandringham Zebras took on the Box Hill Hawks at up in Wonthaggi at the Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
A slow start for the Zebs saw us score three goals to Box Hill Hawks' ten goals by half time. We responded in the second half, with a comeback on the cards, scoring eight goals to the Hawks' three goals.
A late third term goal from Oliver Lowe brought us within 20 points of the Hawks and set the tone for an exciting final quarter. The start of the fourth quarter built momentum with Will Vesely kicking the first goal in the first minute. This was then followed by another goal by Paddy Dow and whilst the hawks kicked one in between, Blake Watson kicked two very exciting goals just a minute apart from each other. As the game proceeded, the Box Hill Hawks only managed one behind and in response, a goal was kicked by Anthony Caminiti making it his third goal of the game to give us a two point lead for the first time in the game. Unfortunately, a late 50m penalty resulting in a goal at the 31st minute gave the Hawks what they needed to win them the game.
Max Heath was a standout with 35 hit outs. We had three multiple goal-scorers in Anthony Caminiti with three - one in each the first, third and fourth quarters, Cooper Sharman with two goals - one in the second quarter and one in the third, and Blake Watson with two goals - both in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter. Zak Jones showcased his skills as he finished with 22 disposals and 13 kicks with Mattaes Phillipou not far behind him with 20 disposals and nine tackles.
Box Hill Hawks: 6.2 10.4 11.6 13.9 (87)
Sandringham Zebras: 1.6 3.11 6.16 11.16 (82)
