In warm and smoky conditions at Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach oval, the Zebs took on the Bombers in an Easter Sunday clash, with two new Zebs making their Sandringham debut - Josh Docking and Will Brown.
The high scoring affair saw the recently drafted AFL-listed player Lance Collard lead the goal scoring with four majors, followed by young Zeb Logan Young with three.
Co-captain Darby Hipwell (27 disposals, nine tackles), Hugo Hall-Kahan (25 disposals) and Tom Campbell (17 disposals, 24 hit outs) were all stand out players.
A swift pickup saw Lance Collard score the first goal of the game in the ninth minute of the first term. With the ability to capitalise on our opportunities, it was a fast opener for the Zebs, getting out to a 27 point lead 6.4 (40) to 2.1 (13) in the first quarter.
However a huge response from Essendon in the second quarter kept our scoring to just 1.2 while the Bombers bagged 5.6, taking a one point lead into half time.
Our controlled efforts down the stretch allowed us to dominate the rest of the game. A three goal quarter for the young Lance Collard, as well as back to back goals from Logan Young. A spectacular mark by Isaac Keeler (seen above) in defence saw us take a commanding 31-point lead into three-quarter time.
We reached a game high lead of 51 points in the final quarter, followed by three late Essendon goals cutting our winning margin to 38 points.
