The game started off strong as Hugo Garcia kicked the first goal within the first minute. This was set up by a quick pick up and pass from Tom Blamires which was marked beautifully by Garcia in front of goals. Although Sydney managed to respond with a few goals, our pressure was high, making it hard for Sydney to smoothly reach their forward 50. Great pressure resulted in a clean tackle from Angus Hastie in our defensive 50, resulting in a ball up. Max Heath took an intercept mark, kicking it forward where a wonderful mark was taken by Will Vesely floating in from the side, resulting in a goal. Sam Latreille kicked our second in a row to get us back in the game as the first quarter came to an end.
Tom Campbell started the second quarter with a bang, kicking his first goal of three for the game. Not long after, Hugo Hall-Kahan kicked a goal to give us a three point lead. The Swans responded with three goals of their own to end the quarter which was fought hard by the Zebras.
In the third, Seb Ross’ wonderful kick to the top of the goal square was marked by Heath who finished with a beautiful goal. Both teams fought hard for a goal going back and forth with close behinds. We went into three quarter time trailing by three goals.
The pressure was strong to start the fourth quarter with multiple tackles resulting in a ball up, which was tapped outside to Hall-Kahan on the run who kicked around the body into the goals, giving the fans hope on the scoreboard, cutting the margin to just 13 points. The Swans managed a couple of goals of their own before a great play from the defensive 50 started with Blamires passing it to Latreille, followed by a few clean handballs down the field with the ball eventually ending up in the hands of Zaine Cordy who then kicked it to Oliver Lowe just outside 50. Lowe converted to bring us back within 19 points. Garcia's kick to the top of the goal square saw Campbell reaching up, taking a huge mark and kicking a goal to bring the margin back to 13 points. The stressful fight between the two teams ended with Campbell’s brilliant third goal of the game from outside 50 right on the siren leaving us with an unfortunate seven point loss.
