The Sandringham Football Club Board advises the appointment of Mark Wheeler as the new club CEO.
Mark takes over from outgoing CEO Marcus Ashcroft who moves back to Queensland at the end of the year for family reasons.
Marcus joined the Zebras as CEO in 2020 and has valued his time at the club,
“I have really enjoyed my journey here with the Zebras and I am really grateful and thankful for the opportunity to represent such a great club. I look forward to seeing the football club flourish in the coming years and will always ensure I stay connected to the Zebras family”.
Sandringham Football Club President, Nick Johnstone, spoke of the change in leadership,
“Marcus has had a significant impact on the Sandringham Football Club and we will miss having him as our CEO. We wish him and his family all the best as they return to Queensland.
We are excited to have Mark Wheeler on board and welcome what he will bring to the club. Mark has so much experience in the industry and an incredible amount of knowledge of the talent pathway system. He will be an asset for us in the recruitment space and has already developed relationships with our football department during his time at the Dragons. The Board is looking forward to working with Mark as we continue to improve the Sandringham Football Club”.
Mark Wheeler has 20+ years’ experience in the football industry. He joins us from the Sandringham Dragons, where he has held the role of Talent Operation Manager since 2018. Prior to his time at the Dragons, Mark worked at the Dandenong Stingrays, directing 63 players onto an AFL list in his 11 years with the club. Early in his career, Mark also spent two years as the General Manager of the then Dandenong & District Junior Football League.
“Whilst I’m sad to be leaving the Sandringham Dragons family, I am excited for this next stage in my career. I have loved working with the Sandringham Football Club over the years and know what a wonderful club it is and I’m grateful I get the opportunity to lead it. Marcus and the Board have set a solid foundation for me to continue to build upon as we strive for both our VFL and VFLW teams make finals in 2025,” says Mark Wheeler.
Mark Wheeler will officially commence with the club in December 2024.
