Four Sainters With Rich Football History Sign On For 2022
28/12/2021
The Southern Saints have confirmed another four signings for the 2022 VFLW season including Grace Buchan, Nikki Wallace, Chloe Leighton and Hannah Dyson.
Former Collingwood VFLW Captain Grace Buchan has signed for season 2022.
A quartet of Southern Saints has signed on for the 2022 season, adding great experience and knowledge to the squad.
From a former Collingwood VFLW Captain to a former basketball player, Grace Buchan, Nikki Wallace, Chloe Leighton and Hannah Dyson
are looking forward to their journey as a Southern Sainter in the 2022 season.
The Southern Saints are excited to announce the signing of Grace Buchan.
Being immensely experienced in the VFLW, previously playing for Collingwood (Captain) and Casey (Vice-Captain), Buchan is looking forward to
sharing her experience and knowledge with the young list.
Buchan has set the standard from the beginning with her dedication and time put towards her skill work during pre-season.
Buchan’s playing experience can see her running off half-back or along the wing and creating opportunities for those in front of her.
She has also shown why she has been a strong leader in her other clubs and joins our extended leadership group in 2022.
Originally starting her football journey in QLD and QAFL, Nikki Wallace has signed with the Southern Saints to put her experience and skills into play.
Wallace’s persistent dedication to being mentally and physically right for the first season of AFLW was rewarded by being drafted to Brisbane in AFLW
1.0.
Wallace looked to continue her football journey by moving to Melbourne and has played the last 3 years in the VFLW with Williamstown and North
Melbourne and now finding her home with the Southern Saints.
A small forward with the ability to push through the middle, we look forward to watching Wallace continue her development leading into the new
season.
Spending the last four years travelling from Portland to Melbourne to play in the VFLW, Chloe Leighton has signed on for the 2022 season at the
Southern Saints.
Originally starting at Collingwood, she has also spent some time at Carlton and Williamstown.
Demonstrating high levels of skill in the backline, the Southern Saints look forward to incorporating Leighton’s style of play as a key defender.
Leighton has had a strong early pre-season while juggling work and finding the balance across working life and footy life.
The Southern Saints look forward to Leighton’s development in the 2022 season.
Transitioning from basketball a couple of years ago, Hannah Dyson is the last of the four new signings.
Dyson has been with both Casey and Hawthorn over the last couple of years in the VFLW, primarily playing as a defender early on, but has also had
experience through the midfield and forward.
Providing height and strength, Dyson loves to compete and will likely be seen running off our half back in 2022 with the ability to provide an option
through other lines if needed.
Training wise, Dyson is diligent in putting in the work whilst also listening to her body as she has battled a couple of niggles but is coming through
them well.
The Southern Saints are excited to incorporate Dyson’s work ethic and skills into the 2022 squad.
