The Southern Saints are excited to announce that Aine Bennett, Courtney Aughtie, Tenae Browne and Zoe McCurdy have committed for the 2024 season.
Aine Bennett
Bennett comes from a strong Gaelic football background, representing County Meath at every age level up to senior inter county. Boasting a wealth of leadership experience, she was the captain of her senior club, Oldcastle, in 2022.
Relocating to Melbourne last year, Bennett was the vice captain of St.Kevins - who went on to win the league and championship double.
A multi-faceted athlete, Bennet also player soccer at a representative level whilst growing up in Ireland. 2023 saw Bennett take to AFL, lining up for Elsternwick in the VAFA - scoring 19 goals across 10 matches as a rover.
We can't wait to see her in action in the red, white and black.
Courtney Aughtie
Another dual talent, Aughtie grew up playing football - but with a soccer ball in tow rather than a Sherrin.
Since finishing up her 15-year soccer career - playing her final games with Southern United in the NPLW - Aughtie has transitioned to the real form of football.
Prior to committing to the Southern Saints, she played two seasons at Seaford Football Club. Lining up as a tall forward, Aughtie was elected in the Team of the Year for the South East Football League in 2023.
Her skills will indeed become an asset to the Saints in 2024.
Tenae Browne
Adding experience to our lineup, Browne has dedicated herself to footy since the age of 18. Playing for the Seaford Football Club for 10 years, she will add another layer of composure and class to our lineup.
Browne is another who grew up playing high level soccer, and similarly to Aughtie, found her way to AFL. Despite playing in multiple Grand Final's, Browne admits she has never experienced the feeling of hoisting the cup - something that we hope to change.
She excels in the forward pocket, and we can't wait to see the excitement she brings alongside the likes of Gaby De Angelis.
Zoe McCurdy
McCurdy is a product of the Sandringham Dragons program, and we are delighted to have her transition to the Southern Saints.
A well-rounded athlete who has pursued lifesaving, running and netball, McCurdy has found her feet amongst the footy world playing for Mordialloc Braeside.
She is a player who has achieved the ultimate success, and we hope she can elevate our pursuit for a premiership in 2024.
Her defensive pressure will be an asset to our side, laying a total of 57 tackles with the Dragons last season.
