Five Saints come marching back in ahead of the 2023 season
06/03/2023
Mel Bertuna, Tessa Boyd, Winnie Laing, Ilena Gentile and Nicki Cormack have all re-signed with the Southern Saints.
These familiar faces return to enhance our 2023 campaign.
Nicki Cormack
Cormack, who came to the club in 2022, has ‘stepped up immensely’ according to Head Coach, Michelle Densley.
Cormack's natural football ability has been amplified through her extreme off-season, in which she has improved her strength and fitness and shown her leadership ability.
Tessa Boyd
Boyd has been a standout this pre-season. Her elite natural ability, fitness and agility as well as her professional training standards have empowered her to develop multiple areas of her game.
Her versatility will cause damage at both ends of the field, making her a massive part of the 2023 Saints side.
Mel Bertuna
After an interrupted 2022 season following her breakout campaign in 2021, Bertuna is back playing exciting, high-level football.
A huge pre-season has set her up to continue being a force to be reckoned with around stoppages. Densely is expecting a big year from this classy midfielder.
Winnie Laing
Labelled 'one to watch' by Densley, Laing has been working hard on every aspect of her game, which has been reflected in her vast improvement.
Known for her impeccable speed and sedulous nature on the field, she has stepped up off the field, too, presenting as a great leader amongst the playing group.
Ilena Gentile
Gentile is constantly developing her game and this pre-season has been no different. Showing off her strength with her overhead marking and one-on-one ability, she is cementing her spot in the side.
Densley predicts that she will be a tough opponent to beat, as well as mentioning that she may play on ball - an exciting year is in store for Gentile nonetheless.
We are looking forward to a successful season and can't wait to see these girls continue to develop in the red, white and black.
Go Saints!
