Both Burke and De Angelis are regulars in the Southern Saints best 22 and made significant contributions to a promising season from the club in 2021.
Renowned for her high standards at training, 23-year-old defender Lucy Burke averaged 10 disposals and 3 marks for the year across the half-back line and was recognised for her efforts with a spot in the VFLW Team of the Year in the same position.
Burke finished 6th in the Southern Saints Best & Fairest with 56 votes, playing all 14 home and away matches for the year and the 2 finals against Port Melbourne and Geelong.
She was named in the Saints best on multiple occasions and was particularly impressive in an 18-point Round 1 win against Essendon, gathering 18 disposals in her customary defensive role.
The club is also delighted to lock in livewire 20-year-old small forward Gabi De Angelis for 2022 after she excelled in what was a breakout season for her.
De Angelis played in every match bar one, averaging 13 possessions and kicking 11 goals across her 15 games.
She finished 3rd in the Southern Saints Best & Fairest with 74 votes and was a constant presence in the forward line with her ferocious defensive pressure.
De Angelis was one of the shining lights of a youthful Saints side in their two finals, as she kicked 3 goals and continued her development as one of the VFLW’s better small forwards.
Football and Recruiting manager Josh Vella was happy to announce the signings:
"We are stoked to lock Lucy & Gabz away for 2022. Both girls were integral to our push for finals in 2021 and I have no doubt will be crucial to our group, both on and off field, moving forward. More importantly, both Lucy & Gaby are fantastic people, the type of people that clubs are built around. Can't wait to see what they will bring over the next 12 months,” he said.
