The Sandringham Football Club is pleased to announce the re-signing of Tom Blamires ahead of the 2024 Smithy's VFL Season.
Blamires returns to Wilson Storage Trevor Baker Beach Oval after a successful first year at the Zebras in 2023. His pathway to the club was unique, having missed out on a list spot in 2022 but remaining part of the program as a train on. As a result of his determination to improve, he was then offered a spot in 2023. For Blamires, this season is no different, having a hunger to get better.
"Personally I just want to get better every week, whether that's becoming a better teammate or playing week to week, they are both things I am striving for," says Blamires.
Blamires became a mainstay in our lineup finishing the 2023 season with 12 games in the yellow, black and blue. His breakout game coming later in the year in Round 18 against Collingwood at the AIA Centre. For what was an intense and physical contest in wet weather, Blamires finished the game with 25 disposals and three marks.
At the 2023 Neil Bencraft Best & Fairest, he found himself tied with Tomo Owens for the Ray Patmore Trophy, an award for the best first year player.
When it came time to re-sign, it wasn't just his ambition to improve at VFL level that helped him with the decision,
"I feel excited to re-sign with the club, we have a very fun group to be around, which always makes it great to come to the club. I'm really looking forward to seeing where the group goes and am very keen for the season to start," says Blamires.
We look forward to seeing Blamires thrive once again in 2024.
