An Open Letter from the President
Hi All,
We hope you and your families are all well and surviving in these unprecedented times.
On behalf of the Board I would like to give you some updates about the possibility of season 2020 recommencing for both VFL and VFLW, as well as some other organisational matters that we would like to bring to your attention.
Firstly, I am delighted to announce that our new electronic scoreboard has been installed . This is a wonderful asset for our club and we are really looking forward to launching it at our first home game. The padlocks are now off Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval so when you next go past have a look at the scoreboard; it sits just north of the existing scoreboard.
Football in 2020. We have been in regular contact with AFL Victoria and all the VFL clubs who are aligned and stand alone – Werribee, Williamstown , Coburg, Port Melbourne, Casey, Box Hill and Frankston - about recommencing a 7 round season on August 1 with 2 rounds of finals and concluding mid October. We will not have access to any St.Kilda players as the AFL have suspended all AFL-listed players from playing VFL in 2020. Therefore, we will need to bolster our list should the season recommence and we are working our way through that at the moment.
Our Senior Coach, Ben McGlynn, is unable to coach us in 2020 as he has been retained by St.Kilda. Therefore we have Adrian Connolly coaching us in 2020, hopefully with the support of several others who have suggested they would like to support the Club.
In speaking with St. Kilda, we believe that, should the season recommence, our VFLW girls would have a huge appetite to get involved and start up season 2020, albeit, also in a shortened form.
From a Sandy By The Bay perspective our caterers, A.S.A.T Catering - Scott and Luke, have been successfully doing take away for several weeks and recently opened the restaurant with obvious restrictions. We ask that you support them as much as possible. They believe with restrictions easing on June 22 the Friday lunches should be back to normal.
We will keep you posted on any movement regarding season 2020 but it appears the government date of June 22 is when we should have clarity about the year ahead.
Take care,
Nick Johnstone
President
