2023 VFL Playing List finalised
16/03/2023
A further six signings round out the Zebras playing list for 2023. Will Gown and Dan Frampton return and we welcome new signings - Leon Alao, Cassius White, Joseph Pourre and Zac Tobin.
Will Gown
Gown got a taste of VFL football in 2022, debuting at the 'G, and didn't look out of place. His leadership qualities have increased during his preseason and his football has seen a direct impact from this.
"Will's ability to read the game defensively and be damaging on counter attack is why we can see him playing consistent VFL football in 2023," says Head Coach, Jake Batchelor.
Dan Frampton
We got a glimpse of what Frampton is capable of in 2022. He has an elite football brain; he reads cues well and knows when to attack and when to defend. Frampton possesses the ability to play on talls and smalls and makes us look safe defensively when he's behind the ball.
"We're looking forward to seeing Framps get a good run at it injury wise and grow into a very good VFL defender this year," says Batchelor.
Leon Alao
Alao was a train-on with the Zebs in 2022 which allowed him to progress his football. His preseason was hampered by a shoulder injury, but the coaching team have liked what they've seen and we're looking forward to seeing him contribute to the Zebs in 2023.
"Leon is silky off half-back, we're excited by his growth and expect him to push for a spot later in the year," says Batchelor.
Cassius White
White joins us from AFL Samoa and has shown a great want to get better. He can play multiple positions and is going to challenge his opponent with his raw talent and genuine leg speed.
Batchelor spoke highly of White,
"We love what he's brought to the club and his ability to be part of the group and connect us as one. We're excited to see where Cassius can get to by season's end".
Joseph Pourre
Pourre is a versatile player who can play forward or back and gives the coaches the ability to mix and match. His ability to change role and perform strongly is a trait that will give him the best chance to forge his VFL career at Sandy.
"We love his raw athleticism, his contest work is really good and his best is hard to beat 1v1," says Batchelor.
Zac Tobin
Tobin has improved drastically since day one and gained a lot of confidence over the preseason. His ability to win 1v1s ahead of the ball is crucial in VFL football and that's what he brings.
"Zac is a great kick and connector on-field. As he continues to develop his leadership qualities, we feel Zac can become a consistent VFL footballer, maybe sooner than expected," explains Batchelor.
