2022 Leadership Group Announced
11/03/2022
The Sandringham Football Club is pleased to announce our leadership group for the 2022 VFL season, as voted on by players, staff, and coaches.
Anthony Seaton has been voted Captain for the 2022 season and will be supported by Vice-Captains Chris Carey, Goy Lok and Tyson Milne who round out the four-man leadership group.
Football & Recruitment Manager, Josh Vella, spoke of the new Captain with high praise, "Seato personifies everything you want in a leader of your group. He works hard, he communicates, every session he tries to make his teammates and himself better."
"Still only 21, he has clearly earnt the respect of his teammates, coaches and support staff. It’s a real credit to the way he conducts himself. I didn’t see anyone here more in the off season than Seato. He’s always looking to go that extra mile to get better.”
Seaton is humbled by his new role, "I'm really honoured to be Captain for this year, I feel really proud and just love having all the boys around me."
"The feedback I've received from the coaches and my teammates over the preseason has really helped me develop and I'm hoping that's something I can return to the group over the course of this year."
"I feel very lucky with the spread of leaders and talent that we've got across the group and I think we'll have a really great season together. I'm really looking forward to it and hoping we can have a good finals run."
Vella also reflected on the rest of the leadership group, who he believes are "fantastic".
"Goy Lok & Chris Carey are experienced players in this competition and understand what it takes to lead at this level. Both have huge impacts behind the scenes off field as well as on field. Tyson Milne has come on in leaps and bounds through preseason and clearly his peers have noticed that. His voice and leadership for a player of his age has been great to watch.”
2022 Leadership Group
Captain - Anthony Seaton
Seaton finished fourth in the 2021 Best & Fairest and was equally impressive, playing in 8 out of a possible 9 games and averaging 11 disposals for the year in a defensive role.
He joined the Zebras leadership group for the first time in 2021 and continues to impress with his off-field and on-field development, evolving as both a player and as a leader.
Seaton also received the 2021 Zeal Player of the Year award, which is player-voted and recognises selflessness, consistent effort and great teamwork.
Vice-Captain - Chris Carey
Carey played 8 games for the Zebras last season, and was voted Vice-Captain in 2021. He played a pivotal role in the squad both on and off the field with his strong leadership and high standards at training.
Carey was our most accurate set shot at goal, cementing his place as a vital member of our forward line. His ability to play in the ruck in addition to the forward line also makes him a highly valuable player on matchday.
Carey is extremely experienced at VFL level and his competitiveness and will to win every contest holds him in good stead.
Vice-Captain - Goy Lok
Lok is the reigning Sandringham FC Best & Fairest winner and our peer-voted 2021 Vice-Captain. He will once again be an important part of our leadership group in 2022.
Lok had a fantastic year in 2021 playing all 9 of our games and averaging 17 disposals and close to a goal a game. He provides power and explosiveness to the midfield group with an ability to push forward and hit the scoreboard.
Vice-Captain - Tyson Milne
Milne joins the leadership group for the first time in 2022, voted in by his peers and coaches. He showed some genuine dash off half-back in 2021 and finished sixth in the Best & Fairest with 60 votes.
Milne is gearing towards a prosperous career in Zebras colours, averaging 17 disposals in 7 matches in what was a breakout season for the youngster.
