Sandringham: 9.14 68
Coburg: 12.6 78
Coburg went straight in for the kill with a very strong first quarter kicking with the wind. With Sandringham caught a little off guard, a 5 goal to 1 first quarter put the Zebras on the back foot right from the beginning.
Determined to put a disappointing first quarter behind them, Sandringham came out with a bit more fight in them. Although Coburg kicked the first goal of the quarter to get the lead out to 31 points, the Zebras were able to kick the next 3 out of 4 goals to get the margin back to a respectable 20 points at half time. With the margin within reach, Sandringham were hoping for a strong second half and get on top for a win.
A goal to Kurt Lopo to start the second half gave Sandringham a sniff. Two of the next three goals got the Zebras got them within a goal and a chance for the lead going into what was an entertaining final quarter. Two late goals to Coburg put any hope of a Sandringham lead to rest but the Zebras were taking confidence into the final quarter.
The Zebras started the final quarter behind by three goals and in hope of some good form and luck to get on top and win. A quick goal to Nick Pavlou to start the final quarter gave Sandringham exactly what they had hoped for and with the margin being cut back to 12 points a win was in sight. Unfortunately, inaccurate kicking got the best of Sandringham. Kicking 9 behinds in the final quarter whilst being on top of a tiring Coburg outfit meant that when the final siren went, Coburg were on top by 10 points.
