By Nathaniel Sage

Sandringham will try to finish their four-game home stand strong against a struggling North Ballarat, as the Roosters travel to Trevor Barker Beach Oval for the first time since 2012.

The Zebras handled Collingwood by 20 points last week, with Paddy McCartin best on ground. His hard work and strong leads paid dividends with 18 disposals, five contested marks, and most importantly, seven goals. Rowan Marshall and Jack Lonie also registered two goals apiece.

Bailey Rice and Elliot Le Grice were both named in the best for the second straight week, and along with Shane Savage set Sandringham up well with their effective ball use across half-back. In the middle, it was Nathan Wright and Luke Dunstan who set the tone with plenty of the ball and a combined 16 tackles.

While there were some very solid individual performances, the Zebras will be frustrated with their overuse of the ball and inability to put four quarters together.

After leading by 51 points early in the third quarter, they allowed Collingwood to cut the margin to just 20 points at the final siren. Fans will be eager to see the relentlessness that defined their first half shine through against North Ballarat.

For the Roosters, after showing some positive signs and holding the lead for much of the first quarter against Footscray, the wheels fell off in a 124-point loss.

Coach Marc Greig will be hoping his side can hang with Sandringham for as long as possible and possibly spring an upset to pull themselves off the bottom of the ladder.

This weekend’s game presents a big opportunity for the Zebras. They will be keen to make their mark early to prevent the Roosters from gaining any confidence, while North Ballarat will be looking for much improved effort and composure across the board.

If you are free this Saturday, come along to Trevor Barker Beach Oval as this is the last home game Sandy play for over a month! Saturday’s game is the last at home until the 24th of June.

The development team will also be at home, as they follow up a wild, come-from-behind victory over Casey and take on Port Melbourne this Saturday at 11am. Goalless up until half time, the development squad came alive with eight unanswered goals in the third to steer them to a 22-point victory.
