Milestone man, Dunell Ready for Round 1
15/04/2021
A fantastic personal achievement, Sam Dunell will this Friday play his 150th VFL match, as the Sandringham Zebras take on the Richmond Football Club at 12pm at the Swinburne Centre.
Dunell started his VFL journey with Bendigo where he played six games before an extended stint with the Williamstown football club where he played 100 games. Dunell has been an integral member of the Saints and the Sandringham Football Club, and this Friday will mark his 44th game for the club.
Dunell spoke about his journey to 150 games and his excitement surrounding the return of footy for 2021.
“Having not played an official game in 18 months, it’s just great to be back playing for points again,” he said.
“I’ve had stints at three different clubs to reach the milestone of 150 games and it’s great to be back at Sandy where I’ve played quite a few of my games.”
“It’s definitely something I’m sure I’ll reflect back on after I finish playing but for now I’m really excited for the year ahead.”
Head coach, Jake Batchelor also spoke on the achievement.
"Sam's been a great servant of the VFL for a long period of time, and it's no surprise that he has been a large part of Williamstown's success over the years," he said.
"He is a great competitor and a great leader."
"We are thrilled to have Sam back at the club and no doubt will want to put in a good performance for his milestone — it's one he should be very proud of."
Make sure you get out to the Swinburne Centre at Punt Road and show your support for Sam and the Zebras this Friday April 16 at 12pm, as they take on Richmond in Round 1.
Good luck Sam, and GO ZEBS!
